The process of smoking a pipe has three basic parts (depending on how much of a expert smoker you are)

– Filling
– Ignition
– Cleaning

Filling the pipe

The bowl of the pipe has to be filled with just the right measure. If you put a lot of tobacco well pressed, smoking will be difficult and if you put too little tobacco in, it will burn very quickly and you will have to fill it very often. The pipe should be filled with small amounts of tobacco, Some people recommend doing this in three times. The first time you should put some tobacco on the bottom and gently press it down, the should be air between the strands. The second time you must put a bit more tobacco so it reaches roughly half of the bowl and press a little more firmly so the tabacco is a little more pressed. The third time you must fill the bowl to the brim and push harder, for this last step you can use a pipe tool to help press it better.

Thus the pipe is ready for the second part: ignition.

Lighting the pipe

To light a pipe correctly, you have to burn the first layer of tobacco evenly. Some believe that the best way to do this is with a wooden match. If you do it with a match or a lighter, you must pass the flame across the entire surface ensuring that the entire top layer is lit alike.
If during smoking the tobacco goes out, you can level with your pipe tool and then light it again.

Cleaning your pipe

If you want your pipe with you for many years, you should clean it thoroughly after each use. Let it cool for a few minutes before cleaning. You’ll have to empty the bowl using the spoon of the pipe tool, you also have to clean the interior of the pipe with a pipe cleaner.

While smoking in a pipe tobacco combustion produces moisture. This moisture produces damage to the wood of the pipe, so it is advisable to use it once a day or every other day. In this way the pipe will dry well between uses and will stay perfect for years.
