What is American Blend?

American Blend is the term used to designate a mixture of certain tobaccos, lets say its a recipe from which the best known of tobacco mixture is obtained. This mixture is the mixture used for the best known tobacco brands worldwide: Marlboro, Chersterfield, Lucky Strike, Winston, Camel, etc.

It is named American blend because it was popularized in the United States.

What is the recipe?

The American Blend mixture is composed of the three main types of tobacco: Virginia, Burley and Oriental tobacco.

Each brand has its own recipe and, of course, is kept secret. These are usually the percentages of each tobacco:

Virginia: around 70%

Burley: between 20% and 30%

Oriental: between 5% and 10%

What does each tobacco do?

Virginia tobacco gives soft aromas and flavors but intense in the mix.

Burley tobacco adds much flavor but little aroma.

Oriental tobacco provides a characteristic taste and gives consistency to the mixture.

Although American Blend mixture is the best known, there are many other mixtures such as Virginia Blend mixture (very popular in Britain and other Commonwealth countries) or Oriental Blend mixture (widely used for pipe tobacco).
